Minister Nagbe Bows – As PUL Convenes Emergency Session Today

Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe has apologized to the Press Union of Liberia (PUL), saying that he has withdrawn comments and re-emphasized his strong belief that the Union has a pivotal role to play in Liberia.

In a letter dated Monday, December 31, 2018, Minister Nagbe said, just as he did following his comments about the Union during a recent talk show which sparked uproar, he subsequently apologized during a meeting with the leadership of the Union on New Year Eve.

It can be recalled that the Information Minister referred to the PUL as “useless organization” when he appeared on Farbric FM 101.1 MHz in Monrovia, thereby causing roar between the Minister of Information and the Press Union of Liberia for which the Minister’s membership from the Union was suspended pending outcome of an investigation by the Council of Elders of the PUL.

A Press release issued yesterday quoted Minister Nagbe as reiterating the importance of the government and the Press Union working continuously toward holding professionals in the media thoroughly accountable to the ethical & professional journalism standards as enshrined in the Code of Conduct for Journalists practicing in Liberia.

In response to the letter of apology to the Journalism Community from Mr. Nagbe, the leadership of the Press Union of Liberia has issued a citation for a mass meeting of the membership of the Union on Friday, 4 January 2019 at 10am, at the Headquarters of the Union on 44 Clay Street, Monrovia.
The PUL said it will appreciate the presence of all journalists and members of the Press Union of Liberia in the best interest of our country.
The Agenda of the meeting, the Union indicated     Reading of last congress minutes, apology letter from Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe, and a closing remark by PUL Secretary Daniel Nyakonah, Jr.
