MONROVIA – Deputy Minister for Public Affairs at the Ministry of Information, Cultural Affairs, and Tourism (MICAT), Daniel Sando, has been briefing the nation on various development updates, including alleged rape case in which he reported that Gender Ministry has promised to ensure transparency.
Speaking Tuesday, October 7, 2025, Sando said, the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Protection has reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring transparency, accountability, and justice in the ongoing investigation of the alleged rape case involving former Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports, J. Bryant McGill.
The Ministry has urged the public and media to refrain from politicizing, prejudging, and sensationalizing the outcome of the investigation, the deputy MICAT reported.
While the Ministry recognizes the heightened public concern and outrage surrounding this matter, we strongly urge the public and all stakeholders and the media to refrain from politicizing, prejudging and sensationalizing the outcome of investigation.
The investigative process is at a critical phase as the Ministry’s Legal Team is working in close coordination with the Liberia National Police (LNP) to ensure that due process is diligently observed. Every effort is being made to guarantee that the investigation remains independent, transparent, and completely free from external interference or influence.
The Ministry assures the public that no stone will be left unturned in the pursuit of justice. We remain steadfast and resolute in upholding the rule of law and protecting the rights and dignity of all victims and survivors of sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV).
In another development, the Ministry extends its profound appreciation to residents of the Via Town Community on Bushrod Island for their vigilant and courageous intervention in the recent alleged rape case involving a staff of the Ministry of Agriculture. Such community solidarity and proactive action are commendable and serve as a vital example of citizen responsibility in combating sexual violence.
However, the ministry is deeply disheartened and vehemently condemns the inhumane and reprehensible act allegedly committed by Mr. Sando S. Kromah, age 34, who was reportedly caught in the act of violating a 14-year-old minor by community dwellers, who swiftly intervened and rushed the survivor to a nearby medical facility.
The Ministry recognizes and commends the prioritism and vigilance demonstrated by the community, which underscores that the fight against sexual and gender-based violence is a shared national responsibility. This fight demands the collective courage and action of every Liberian, in families, communities, and institutions.
The survivor is currently under the protective care of the Ministry, receiving comprehensive medical treatment and psychosocial counseling, while the alleged perpetrator remains in custody at the Monrovia Central Prison pending court trial.
In a related development, the Ministry commended the residents of Via Town Community on Bushrod Island for their vigilant intervention in a recent alleged rape case involving a staff member of the Ministry of Agriculture.
He also reported on Central Bank introducing a new Electronic Payment System, and that a new directive requiring all government payments to beneficiaries and revenue collections to be routed through the National Electronic Payment Switch/Inclusive Instant Payment Systems (NEPS/IIPS).
This move aims to promote fiscal transparency, strengthen public financial management, and enhance efficiency, Sando said.
Sando also disclosed that Government has launched Solar Power Plant in Lofa, holding groundbreaking ceremony for the construction of a 4.0 MWp solar photovoltaic power plant with a 9.4 MWh lithium-ion battery energy storage system in Voinjama.
The project, financed by the World Bank, is expected to provide modern, reliable, and sustainable electricity to over 50,000 residents and businesses in the area, he said.
Speaking further, Minister Sando said the President of Liberia, Joseph Boakai, has made two initial appointments to the newly established Liberia National Tourism Authority (LNTA).
The appointments has taken immediate effect, he said, and that the new leadership team is expected to drive strategic programs that will strengthen research, planning, and development within the tourism industry.
