LP Warns of Legal Action Over Defamation of Leader -Calls for Responsible Speech, Vows Speaking Truth to Power

MONROVIA – The Liberty Party Women in the United States has issued a strong condemnation of the recent defamation of Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence, President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, describing the acts as “malicious” and “detrimental to the integrity of Liberia’s democratic process.” As The Analyst reports, the party has warned that it would pursue legal action against individuals or entities engaging in deliberate defamation, while extending an open invitation for dialogue to all Liberians seeking clarity and truth.

The US-based Women Wing of the Liberty Party has strongly condemned what it called the malicious defamation of character directed toward their political leader, the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence.

Such acts of slander and misinformation are not only unjustified but are also detrimental to the integrity of Liberia’s democratic process and the moral fabric of our political discourse, the party said in a release.

The Liberty Party says it is founded upon principles of integrity, respect, and constructive engagement and categorically rejects any attempt—whether by individuals, groups, or media entities—to tarnish the reputation of our Party or any of its members through falsehoods, character assassination, or defamatory commentary. Political competition must never devolve into personal attacks or unfounded allegations.

“We hereby issue a formal warning that any individual or entity, regardless of jurisdiction, engaging in the deliberate defamation of Senator Nyonblee Karnga Lawrence or any member of the Liberty Party will be subject to immediate legal action under applicable Liberian laws and international defamation laws,” the said in the statement.

It added: “We are fully prepared to pursue all available legal remedies, including but not limited to civil and criminal proceedings, to protect the dignity and reputation of our leaders and our institution.”

The party said while freedom of speech is a right, it carries inherent responsibilities, and that exercising such a right must not spread lies, incite division, or undermine public trust in our nation’s leadership.

“We believe that the right to free speech is fundamental, but it should be exercised with caution and respect for others,” it asserted.

Meanwhile, the party has extended an open invitation for dialogue to all Liberians, at home and abroad, who desire to know the truth and seek clarity.

“We believe that open conversation fosters understanding, strengthens democracy, and builds harmony,” said the Liberty Party. “We encourage every citizen to engage constructively and to seek insight into the functions, duties, and responsibilities of the Office of the President Pro Tempore of the Liberian Senate, so that facts—not rumors—guide public opinion.”

LP also expressed an ironclad determination to “stand firmly with our leader, Senator Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence, and reaffirm our unwavering commitment to the values of honesty, accountability, and lawful conduct in public life.”
