MONROVIA – Denials are measured by what they leave out. Liberia’s embassy near Abuja has dismissed claims that three staff members are owed salaries. Its wording is careful, though. The mission says it is not aware of any arrears. That falls short of producing payroll records. The release does not name the three employees or address their individual cases. It also points to Monrovia. Salaries, it explains, are administered through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, not the embassy. The burden of proof therefore shifts to the ministry. The embassy frames the dispute as a threat to Liberia’s image abroad. Unpaid diplomatic staff, if confirmed, would damage that image faster than any post. THE ANALYST reports.
The Embassy of the Republic of Liberia near Abuja, Nigeria, has rejected as false and misleading information circulating on social media and in certain quarters alleging that the Government of Liberia owes salaries to three employees serving at the Mission. In a press release issued in Abuja, the Embassy stated that its attention had been drawn to the allegations.
The Embassy categorically rejected the allegations and clarified that the Mission is not aware of any outstanding salary arrears owed to the individuals referenced in the reports. Embassy personnel, it explained, are employed by the Government of Liberia through the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA), and their salaries and benefits are administered in accordance with established government procedures.
Embassy condemns “unverified information”
The Embassy strongly condemned the circulation of unverified information that, it noted, could mislead the public and damage the image and credibility of the Government of Liberia. As the Government continues its efforts to reposition and strengthen Liberia’s image in the international community, the release stated, responsible reporting and factual accuracy are essential.
The Embassy therefore called on media institutions, social media commentators and individuals to verify information through appropriate official channels before publication. It further urged them to desist from spreading false or unsubstantiated claims.
The Embassy declared that it remains committed to fulfilling its diplomatic responsibilities, protecting the interests of the Republic of Liberia and maintaining public confidence through professionalism, transparency and accountability. The public is encouraged, the release added, to rely on official communications from the Embassy and MOFA for accurate information concerning the operations of Liberia’s diplomatic mission in Nigeria.
