MONROVIA – On Human Rights Day, the International Criminal Court (ICC) reaffirms its commitment to upholding human dignity and promoting accountability. The ICC joins the global community in commemorating the 77th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, adopted on December 10, 1948.
This year’s theme, “Human Rights, Our Everyday Essentials,” highlights the fundamental importance of human rights in ensuring safety, freedom, and prosperity. The ICC’s judicial mandate focuses on holding perpetrators accountable for grave crimes, including genocide, crimes against humanity, war crimes, and aggression.
“A rules-based international order, grounded in accountability, remains essential for safeguarding the rights and security of present and future generations,” said ICC President Judge Tomoko Akane. “The ICC is committed to providing a forum where victims’ voices are heard and the law is applied impartially and independently.”
The ICC calls on states, institutions, and individuals to work together to ensure human rights are respected and protected. By upholding the principles of justice and accountability, we can build a more peaceful and resilient world.
