MONROVIA – The family of the late Eric K. Duaryenneh, whose recent death has caused considerable public outrage due to settling circumstances surrounding it, has been meeting with officials of the Ministry of Justice in what they call a pursuit for clarity, justice and transparency.
In a statement released in Monrovia October 8, 2025, the family said: “Today marks a significant moment in the ongoing pursuit of justice for the late Mr. Eric K. Duaryenneh, as the family has officially reached out to key government offices, including the Deputy Minister of Justice, the Inspector General of Police, Hon. Gregory Coleman, and the County Attorney of Lofa County, presenting a formal communication concerning the progress and transparency of the investigation.”
According to the statement the senior officials reaffirmed their commitment to conducting a thorough, impartial, and credible investigation into the circumstances surrounding the tragic passing of Mr. Duaryenneh.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and the Police Inspector General have assured the family that the investigation will be restarted from its foundation, with a renewed focus on truth, accountability, and public confidence, the statement said.
The officials informed the family that the first phase of the renewed investigation would begin with individuals previously detained in connection with the church construction site—specifically, the contractors who were under police custody.
Furthermore, attention will be extended to the hotel management and staff where critical questions remain unanswered.
As part of this process, the complete CCTV footage from the hotel premises will be retrieved and carefully analyzed by the investigative team, the family statement further indicated.
The Liberia National Police have also commenced discreet field operations to gather independent testimonies as part of a broader undercover investigation, which is expected to intensify throughout the week.
In addition, the police will question the officer responsible for retrieving the deceased’s body, with an emphasis on identifying the chain of communication—specifically, determining who authorized and contacted him to collect the remains. In a crucial development, the authorities have also named Mr. Jasen Wallace as a person of interest, pledging to conduct a thorough inquiry into his possible involvement or knowledge related to the death of the late Mr. Duaryenneh.
The family has been advised that, at this stage, the body of the deceased remains under the custody of the Government of Liberia for official purposes.
The Deputy Minister of Justice and the Inspector General have assured the family that a formal autopsy will be conducted under government supervision, with full transparency.
The findings of this examination, along with other aspects of the investigation, will be publicly communicated through the media upon completion.
The body of Mr. Duaryenneh is expected to be formally released to the family later this week, following all necessary forensic procedures.
The authorities have appealed for patience, emphasizing that the investigation is being pursued with seriousness, professionalism, and respect for the deceased and his grieving family.
The Duaryenneh family, while mourning their irreparable loss, has expressed cautious optimism in light of the government’s assurances.
