MONROVIA – In a defiant show of resilience, former President George Weah on Saturday led the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) in a colorful, well-organized groundbreaking ceremony for its new national headquarters, vowing to rebuild Liberia and serve all Liberians despite challenges and setbacks. The Political Leader doubled down on the CDC’s promise of ironclad commitment to its ideals and the Liberian people, as the party marked the groundbreaking ceremony for its new national headquarters in Monrovia—a project many say symbolizes the party’s determination to move forward towards the “2029 Democratic Conquest”. The Analyst reports.
Last Saturday, October 18, the Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) marked a significant milestone on Saturday with the groundbreaking ceremony for its new national headquarters in Congo Town, Monrovia. The event comes after the party’s former headquarters was demolished in a highly contested and controversial circumstance, which the CDC attributed to the ruling Unity Party’s orchestrations.
Despite the challenges and setbacks, the CDC has shown resilience and determination, and the groundbreaking ceremony served as a testament to the party’s unwavering commitment to its ideals and the Liberian people.
Thousands of CDC partisans, supporters, and sympathizers gathered to celebrate this new chapter in the party’s history.
Former President George Manneh Weah, Standard Bearer of the CDC, delivered a keynote address at the ceremony, thanking the Chairman of the CDC Headquarters Construction Committee and his team for their hard work and dedication to the project.
“The CDC is not in the walls of the structure. The CDC lives in our hearts and minds!” he declared.
President Weah expressed gratitude to his wife, Madam Clar Marie Weah, the CDC Legislative Caucus, members of the clergy, and leaders of other political parties for their presence and support.
He also thanked the contractor, Professor Nidan L. Hage, and his team for accepting the party’s offer and committing to complete the project in record time.
In his address, President Weah emphasized the party’s commitment to rebuilding Liberia and serving its people.
“Our nation has experienced too many breakdowns, including our limited infrastructure. Ours is a commitment to rebuild, because we are builders and not destroyers,” he said. “Let us remain resilient. Let us recalibrate. Let us work hard because the people of Liberia depend on us to deliver them from the claws of these charlatans and mountebanks.”
The groundbreaking ceremony serves as a symbol of the party’s determination to move forward and continue its work in promoting democracy, good governance, and development in Liberia, he said.
“Fellow CDCians, Weahcians, friends, and well-wishers, when I was away, I urged you to be hopeful, pleading that I would build our new party headquarters in record time. This is my promise and my gift to you,” the former President said. “Let us all come together and bridge the divide. We must break ground, rebuild, and be hopeful. The CDC is not in the walls of the structure. The CDC lives in our hearts and minds!”
He said: “So you can break the bricks; you can break the walls; but we remain standing, steadfast in our love and commitment to the ideals of our dear institution. The party is supreme; the CDC is supreme!”
President Weah noted: “Today’s ceremony is a testament to our resolve to rebuild Liberia and serve its people.”
Continuing the CDC leader said, “Let me also appreciate our new neighbors for the warm reception and for hosting us in our new community. We promise to be a good neighbor, so help me God.”
“Today’s ceremony is a testament to our resolve to continue working for the Liberian people, irrespective of their political, social, or religious affiliation. Despite the evil and constant disregard and abuse of the rule of law by the Unity Party government, the vast majority of Liberians have shown their empathy, love, and support to us.”
