AML Grooms Homegrown Talent -First 60 certified; 1,800 more coming

MONROVIA – In a mining industry where operational excellence increasingly separates viable concessions from failing ones, the depth of a company’s investment in its own people has become as telling an indicator as the tonnage it ships. ArcelorMittal Liberia, the country’s largest foreign direct investor, appears determined to make that point emphatically clear: after certifying its first full cohort of 60 employees in an advanced Shop Floor Enhancement and Management Program, the steel giant has announced plans to extend the training to approximately 1,800 workers across all its operations—a commitment company officials frame as central to building a highly skilled Liberian workforce capable of meeting international standards in mining and industrial operations. THE ANALYST reports.

ArcelorMittal Liberia (AML) certified the 60 employees following their successful completion of the company’s intensive 3D and 4D Shop Floor Enhancement and Management Program, marking another milestone in its ongoing investment in workforce development and operational excellence.

The certification ceremony, held in Yekepa, brought together company executives, supervisors, trainers, and graduates to celebrate the achievement while reaffirming AML’s commitment to building a highly skilled Liberian workforce capable of meeting international standards in mining and industrial operations.

From Certificates to Performance

Speaking during the event, company leaders reminded participants that the value of the training lies not merely in obtaining certificates but in translating the newly acquired knowledge into measurable improvements in workplace performance.

Graduates were encouraged to apply the leadership, operational, and management skills gained through the program to increase productivity, improve teamwork, and strengthen efficiency across the company’s operations, and they were challenged to mentor fellow employees and promote a culture of continuous learning and innovation within their respective departments.

Scaling Up to 1,800 Workers

According to AML, the certification of the first 60 employees represents only the beginning of a much larger workforce development initiative.

The company disclosed plans to roll out the 3D and 4D Shop Floor Enhancement and Management Program to approximately 1,800 employees, underscoring its long-term commitment to developing local talent and strengthening operational capacity.

The initiative is designed to equip employees with practical leadership competencies, effective shop floor management techniques, and problem-solving skills that enhance safety, productivity, and operational efficiency while preparing workers for greater responsibilities within the organization.

Beyond improving individual performance, the training is expected to foster stronger collaboration among teams, encourage innovation in daily operations, and reinforce AML’s culture of accountability, excellence, and continuous improvement.

Investing in Human Capital

Company officials said the program aligns with ArcelorMittal Liberia’s broader strategy of investing in human capital as a cornerstone of sustainable business growth.

They emphasized that continuous employee development is essential to maintaining world-class mining operations while creating meaningful career advancement opportunities for Liberian workers, and they noted that as the company’s mining operations continue to expand, developing a competent and adaptable workforce remains critical to achieving long-term operational success and supporting Liberia’s economic development through skills transfer and employment opportunities.

Closing the ceremony, ArcelorMittal Liberia congratulated the graduates for their commitment and perseverance throughout the program and urged them to become ambassadors of excellence by sharing their knowledge, inspiring colleagues, and contributing to higher standards of performance across the company’s operations.

The certification program adds to a series of capacity-building initiatives undertaken by the company in recent years, reflecting its continued emphasis on workforce empowerment, safety, leadership development, and sustainable industrial growth.
