MONROVIA: There was a change of leadership at the state-owned Liberia Petroleum Refining Company (LPRC) yesterday, Tuesday, January 30, 2024 when the Managing Director designate, Amos Tweh took over the helm of affairs and promised to set up an aggressive agenda that prioritizes institutional growth.
At a brief but colorful program witnessed by Vice President Jeremiah Kpan Koung, the National Chairman of the Unity Party, Rev. Luther Tarpeh, among others, Amos who had historicized his previous employment at the institution said he will build a team that finds solution, establish a clear agenda that will enhance teamwork, address internal inefficiency and provide the space for personal development through capacity building initiatives.
“We will work with the relevant departments (HR, Compliance et al) to ensure performance, punctuality, good work ethics and high productivity. We will place premier on protecting company assets and utilize available resources more appropriately to facilitate the expansion of the company’s operations.
“We will strengthen operational and systems efficiency to adequately support preventive maintenance and ensure that vessel discharge and loading infrastructures are in their best state at all times.
“Importers contributions to the socioeconomic development of Liberia have been very significant. We will work with various licensed importers and distributors to jealously guide and protect their investments in order to uphold the company’s enviable reputational credentials and ensure the uninterrupted availability and affordability of petroleum products on the Liberian Market”, he said.
Tweh further said that the LPRC Petroleum Lab under his administration will be upgraded in keeping with international standards to ensure that quality is not compromised at any given time just as he stated that the operations department, which is the nerve center of LPRC, that comprised Oil Movement and Supply (OM&S) and the Product Inspection Stock Sections (PIS) will be given serious attention if the company must grow and stay buoyant.
He warned that Product theft, when proven to be carried out by any of our employee/contractor will be treated with utmost urgency in adherence with the company’s policies.
“For LPRC to succeed in its quest for adequate storage and the development of a petroleum refinery, we will work collectively to design the company’s corporate strategy and a new 5-year strategic Plan to guide institutional development in line with the president’s ARREST agenda.
“Community outreach and corporate social responsibility of the company will be reinforced with projects on education, health and substance abuse.
“We will seek to expand the operations of LPRC, and work with everyone including the Board of Directors, Executive Management Team, Senior Management Team, employees and all stakeholders to accelerate growth, increase revenue and sustain our contribution to national government.
“As part of the President’s desire to enhance transparency in the public space, we will work with relevant agencies including private firms to commission a full-scale personal, system and financial audits to understand what we are taking over at LPRC”, he said.
Tweh who formerly served at top management level of the entity before leaving the system said he will work with relevant stakeholders to review some important agreements on privately owned storage terminals and make appropriate adjustments where necessary while also promising to review existing Claim Policy and the company’s overall price regime to conform to current day realities.
“We will work collectively to strengthen LPRC’s licensing regime: we will ensure that all the terms and conditions established for the issuance of importation and other licenses are implemented fully.
“As I officially start work in this reunion as MD at LPRC, I want to restate President Boakai’s policy statement, “there will be no more business as usual”. Every employee is urged to adopt the principle of corporate mentality. The Board and Senior management team, when fully constituted, will work diligently to provide the support and space required to inspire you and enhance productivity”, Tweh said.
He thanked President Boakai for the rare opportunity given him to serve as Managing Director of the entity and promised to do his best to justify the confidence reposed in him.
