The successful amalgamation of various political parties under one tent to clinch political power from the incumbent has been a daring feat that has always dogged the activities of the opposition community for eons, especially when it boils down to who finally heads the ticket. The current confluence of opposition political parties’ leadership under the banner of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP), having seen the need to peacefully coexist in order to win the hearts and minds of the electorate in 2023, converged Monday, June 7 in Sinkor, Monrovia where they resolved among other things to foster unity and uphold the framework agreement of the collaboration in the wake of growing apprehension among partisans and supporters ahead of the CPP nationwide primaries, The Analyst reports.
Disclosing outcomes of the one-day leadership workshop, the CPP in a presser recalled that upon assuming the leadership on February 3, Liberty Party’s Political Leader Nyonblee Karnga-Lawrence promised to guide the development of a roadmap to the selection of a presidential ticket for the CPP ahead of the 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.
“Following that declaration, debates as to who heads the CPP ticket have ensued across various platforms including social media and radio stations across Liberia. Even within the CPP, the debate has further intensified leading to “negative statements and utterances” amongst partisans and against Political Leaders of other constituent parties,” the CPP noted.
The CPP furthered that over the course of the last few months, there have been growing public concerns over the “perceived decline” of existing relationship amongst leaders and partisans of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP). Consequently, Liberians with strong hope in CPP, who find the organization as the appropriate platform of redeeming Liberia and restoring their hopes in 2023, fear that this “perceived decline” would undermine the founding objectives of the Collaboration.
Resolution
“With this, the leaders of constituent parties through the NAC, NEC, CPP Legislative caucus, CPP Secretariat and recognized committees including support structures and diaspora branches, hereby resolve and recommit to the founding objectives of the CPP, and assure the Liberian people in general that going forward, all executives and/or officials of constituent parties, should refrain from pointless accusations on any Political Leaders, Executive Committee Members, or officials of any constituent party, and the institution itself.
“Any executive or official found making demeaning statements on the Political Leaders, Executive Committee Members or Officials of any constituent party will be penalized consistent with internal regulations and/or laws governing their institution and the CPP,” the presser furthered, adding, each constituent party will propagate this decision to all its membership and endeavor to ensure that all members at various levels heed to this decision.
“All partisans and supporters of constituent parties within the CPP are mandated to make best efforts aimed at protecting and respecting all leaders going forward,” the CPP cautioned.
The workshop brought together the National Advisory Council, Executive Committee, Legislative Caucus, Secretariat and Specialized Committees of the Collaborating Political Parties (CPP).
