The Liberia National Police (LNP) on Monday, July 15 charged four officers of the Police Support Unit (PSU) with “Negligent Homicide” and sent to the Monrovia City Court for prosecution. The officers were charged due to their role into the Monday, June 24, 2019 Protest in the township of Kingsville.
According to the charge sheet, investigation covering the facts and circumstances coupled with eye- witness’s accounts, crime scene visitation, as well as physical injuries inflicted on the victims, found wanting the PSU officer, defendants Emmanuel S. Melikamue, Morris M. Dahn, Josephus M. Lewis and Thompson W. Pobleh of the Police Support Unit.
Accordingly, they were investigated, charged with “Negligent Homicide, Aggravated Assault, and criminal Facilitation” in violation of chapter 14, subchapter A section 10.2 of the chapter 14 subchapter R section 14.20 and chapter 10 section 10.2 of the revised penal code of the Republic of Liberia” and sent to court as provided for by Law.
The charge sheet narrated the on June24, 2019 some residents of the Township of Kingsville stage a protest in demand of Justice for the Death of two children in person of Elijah Polima and Thomas Kollie at the outskirts of Kingsville on the 3rd of June, 2019.
As investigation has established facts and circumstances, the shooting at Kingsville #7 resulted to the injuries of Saah Saah and the death of Abraham Tomay, all of the same community. The charge sheet further stated, “On June 24, 2019, some aggrieved residents of Kingsville Township, Montserrado County staged an illegal protesting which they set up roadblocks thereby obstructing the free flow of human and vehicular traffic”
The charge sheet also said an analysis of five cartridges that were found on the scene shows that those five cartridges belong to ammunition types of 7.62 *39mm for automatic firearms Kalashnikov (AK 47) and all its modifications.
Meanwhile, the four Police officers who are said to be committed to the Monrovia Central prison are expected to appear in court to answer to their charges as provide for by law under the constitution of the Republic of Liberia.
