Vice President Jewel Howard-Taylor Monday, March 22, 2021, launched two separate books on the COVID-19 pandemic.
The books title “The Unwelcome Stranger Visit and the Unwelcome Stranger authored by Drew Edwards were Monday presented to the Vice President at her Capitol Building office in Monrovia.
Mr. Drew Edwards is a social entrepreneur with international development experience across sub-Saharan Africa and the Middle East.
Speaking when she officially launched the books, Vice President Howard-Taylor extolled the efforts of Mr. Edwards and others for the publication.
She noted that the books depict the danger the pandemic posed to human existence while outlining the horrible experience she encountered when he contracted the virus.
She explained that the books which are in simplified version for primary students provide a clearer understanding of the virus and its prevention measures.
The Liberian Vice President furthered that she has initiated consultations with the Ministry of Education and other partners to ensure that the books are printed in mass for distributions across Liberian schools.
She also committed to separately engage the Ministry of Education for the possible inclusion of the books into the list of essential text books being used in Liberian schools.
Vice President Howard-Taylor said the books will help to provide a well rooted public education on the virus and strengthen preventive measures amongst the population.
Speaking earlier, the author of the books Drew Edwards thanked the Vice President for the launch of the two books while expressing excitement that the books would be used to enhance public education on the global pandemic.
Mr. Edward spent his career working in education with children in post-conflict and crisis settings.
He has extensive experience in informal and primary education in low-resource settings and currently serving as co-founder, CEO at Pangea Education Development.
