The political leader of the Alternative National Congress (ANC), Mr. Alexander Benedict Cummings, Jr. has called for more encouragement for women participation in politics by supporting affirmative actions to close the inequality gap that currently exists between men and women.

Mr. Cummings said while he subscribes to the advocacy for 30% which is making the round in the political space, he would prefer at least 50% as a mark to show our seriousness to address the importance and need for the active participation of our womenfolk in politics and governance.

The ANC leader made the assertion recently after attending the first anniversary of the Movement for One Liberia (MOL) under the leadership of Madam MacDella Cooper held in Monrovia.

While recognizing the resolve of women to be part and parcel of the governance process in the country, the ANC leader lauded the mass mobilization and rally some women held to raise close to $10,000.00 to support female candidates currently in legal battles fighting to take their seats in the senate. He hopes that this should be a small example of the power of women and the impact they can make in the Liberian politics.

The former Chairman of the CPP also called on the leaders of the opposition bloc to strive and build good relationships with other members of the larger opposition bloc, an initiative he said he undertook while serving as one of the rotational leaders of CPP and vowed to do so as political leader of the ANC

“There’s no better time for the opposition to unite than now. Our country is at a crossroads, and it is not about any one personal ambition but the future of our country and our children’s children”, Mr. Cummings said.
