When First Lady Mrs. Clar Marie Weah launched her flagship feminist advocacy group a year ago to tackle women empowerment, rape and health care issues related to the country’s most marginalized gender, many had not thought her effort would have had a nationwide outreach. But the First Lady Weah’s Movement defied odds on Saturday, February 13, 2021 in Gbarnga City Hall, Gbarnga, Bong County, when the Forum launched an intensive sensitization and awareness exercise among women and girls.
The exercise which sought to inform and get the women fully involved with the She’s You Movement brought together nearly 100 women and girls from various organizations.
The landmark event informed the women of central Liberian that, Mrs. Clar Marie Weah, through her ‘She You’ Movement, intends to end rape and all forms of gender based violence.
The program, according to organizers of the event, is also geared towards empowering women entrepreneurship through agriculture, while providing education and welfare for children and disadvantaged children; as well as ending Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV/AIDS.
The program also intends to reduce Maternal and Neonatal Mortality; advocate for better health in areas of infertility, cancer and hypertension, among others.
According to the program planner, engagements will continue across the length and breadth of the country with interactive sections geared towards highlighting the plight of women and girls including the underprivileged and persons with disabilities.
