The Movement for Economic Empowerment has reaffirmed that the party remains an integral constituent party of the Rainbow Alliance, which is a collaboration of seven Political Parties that agreed to contest as a registered Political entity in Liberia after meeting all legal requirements.

The Rainbow Alliance includes Victory for Change Party (VCP), Vision for Liberia Transformation (VOLT), Democratic Justice Party (DJP), Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), Redemption Democratic Congress (RDC), the Union for Liberian Democrats (ULD), and the True Whig Party (TWP).

It can be recalled recently in Monrovia that the National Women League of the Movement for Economic Empowerment (MOVEE), called on the leadership of the party to withdraw from the Rainbow Alliance. The women’s group of the party  indicated that the decision by the leadership of the party to join the Rainbow Alliance was not done in agreement with partisans and supporters.

The National Women League Secretary of MOVEE, Nancy Duogbour, further called on the National Elections Commission not to recognize MOVEE as part of the Rainbow Alliance.

But speaking to reporters Tuesday, October 13, 2020 in Sinkor, Monrovia, Mr. Dan Saryee said the Rainbow Alliance came about through by the active involvement of the Movement for Economic Empowerment, saying ” the party took the decision after extensive consultations with various organs and officials of the party by which a resolution was signed by the National Executive Committee members of the party.”

He noted that the Women League Secretary also signed the resolution approving that the party joins the Rainbow Alliance, explaining further that the National Executive Committee is consulting as to what may have motivated the Women League Secretary’s statement.

“There were series of meetings and reports that were shared in general meetings to brief our partisans and supporters on activities of the party with the Rainbow Alliance. The Women League Chairperson was involved in planning meetings and attended the certification which initiated the process for the formation of the Alliance, to ensure that the party is a part”, the MOVEE Chairman indicated.

According to him, there is no crisis in the party, describing the action of the Women League as unprecedented and disservice to the party to make comment that is very unbefitting, adding “I was shocked and I think she was misguided by her statement that the MOVEE should withdraw from the Rainbow Alliance which I think she must have been under certain persuasion.”

He averred that the Rainbow Alliance remains an alternative for the Liberian people. He said the party is not injured by the Women Wing statement, saying he is in consultation with National Executive Committee members in convening a meeting where issues of the party will be discussed including recent statements coming from the Women League about the party’s withdrawal from the Rainbow Alliance.

While calling on partisans and supporters to remain committed and believe in the Alliance, and not to be carried away by the statement,  Mr. Saryee revealed that the Rainbow Alliance is still working on the formation of its framework that will include all organs of the Alliance including the Youth Wing, women League, among others.
