MONROVIA – Liberia’s Vice President, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard-Taylor, is expressing the hope that Liberia effectively deals with the Coronavirus pandemic so that the country returns to normalcy.
She noted that the pandemic has not only taken away lives but gone to severely cripple the world’s economy, with Liberia being no exception.
The Liberian Vice President was speaking Monday, May 11, 2020, when the oil palm Company operating in Southeastern Liberia, Golden Veroleum Liberia Inc., (GVL) donated anti-COVID materials to the office of the Vice President.
Thanking GVL for the donation, VP Howard-Taylor said, “we look forward to ending the emergency period against COVID-19 so that GVL, and other investment ventures in the country, can continue expansion projects to create more jobs for our citizens”.
She termed the donation as timely, noting that the items donated will be used to continue her ongoing distribution of anti-COVID materials to vulnerable groups, particularly women and children.
Speaking earlier, the Vice President of Strategic & Stakeholder of Golden Veroleum, Mr. Elvis G. Morris, said the active involvement of the Vice President in the fight against the virus attracted the Company’s attention, leading it to move in with the donation.
According to Mr. Morris, the Company observed that the Vice President has been reaching out to impact lives, stressing, “this is why we saw the need to come in to buttress her efforts”.
He said GVL also made similar donation to the people of Sinoe and Grand Kru counties. The donated Anti-COVID materials include toiletries, used clothing, cartoons of bleach, bags of rice, hand washing buckets, among others.
Liberia currently has over two hundred confirmed COVID-19 cases with twenty deaths as the battle against the virus continues across the country.
