President George Manneh Weah has lauded the management of CEMENCO, the premium cement factory in Liberia, for the construction of a state of the art Cement production facility. The Liberian leader considered the investment by the only cement industry in the country as an indication of the interest investors have developed in the Liberian economy.
Dr. Weah said the construction of the US$14m state of the art cement production facility by CEMENCO is not only intended to significantly increase the company’s production ability, but will also introduce a new technology and efficiency to their cement production.
Speaking at the inaugural ceremony of CEMENCO production facility on the Somalia Drive, the Liberian leader has expressed delight over the construction of the new facility and also congratulate the Board and management as well as the HEIDELBERG CEMENT Group for the development they have brought in the country.
He said the huge development undertaken by the group is a sign of their level of trust in the Liberian economy; saying that HEIDELBERG CEMENT Group’s willingness to continue making foreign direct investment in Liberia is a vote confidence in the stability and safety of the Liberian investment environment.
President Weah noted that the investment is timely, because after two years of assessment which have necessitated many adjustments that the Liberia economy is poised for growth, there will be many new budget lines which will require your products, including roads construction and rollout of other new infrastructures.
Speaking earlier, the Chairman of the Board of Directors of CEMENCO, Morten Gade, said the new facility constructed by his company meets three key demands for cement supply in Liberia.
The CEMENCO Board Chair said the facility has given the company the capacity to meet the total demand for high quality cement at an affordable price throughout the year; it will also enable CEMENCO to supply dry cement during the rainy season to all corner of Liberia amongst others.
Morten Gade said the development has proven that CEMENCO is living up to its slogan “the quality you deserve” and added that CEMENCO will build the nation, asserting that CEMENCO is a major contributor to the Liberian economy through its regular tax payment.
Also speaking, the House Committee Chairman on Concessions and Investments, Rep. Tibelrosa Tarponweh thanked CEMENCO for the initiative, and pledged the support of the 54th National Legislature to the activities of the company in Liberia.
